塞下曲(其四)   盧綸 (748-800)

野幕蔽瓊筵，羌戎賀勞旋。
醉和金甲舞，雷鼓動山川。

In the camps out in the wilds,

The West Qiang barbarians have prepared an exquisite feast to regale the general,
Drunken the general dances waving in the air his helms,
All soldiers hail with thundering drum bolts that rock mountains in a tremble,

月黑雁飛高，單于夜遁逃。

欲將輕騎逐，大雪滿弓刀。

At night amidst the dim moonlight the wild geese soared aloft,

Taking advantage of the darkness the Hun ruler tried to bolt,

After his carriage the general’s horse hotly pursued,

His bow and sword were all covered with heavy snow.

林暗草驚風，將軍夜引弓。

平明尋白羽，沒在石棱中。

In the dark forest grasses rattle under the gale,

Deep in the night the general draws his bow,

Dawn breaks they seek for the shot arrow,

Through a rock it has riddled.

滅燭憐光滿，披衣覺露滋。
不堪盈手贈，還寢夢佳期。

Thinking of Someone Faraway Under

the Bright Full Moon              Zhang Jiuling (678 - 740)

The bright full moon grows out of the sea,
‘Tis a moment all the world agog to see,
Lovers, chagrined at the length of the eve,
Stay up all night with each other to miss;
I douse the candle as the moonlight suffuses,
Put on my coat feeling the dew increase ;
Failing to give you a handful of the light as gift,
Retiring to bed, I look for a rendezvous in my dream with thee.

水調歌頭       蘇軾(1037-1101)
丙辰中秋，歡飲達旦，大醉，作此篇，兼懷子由

明月幾時有，把酒問青天？
不知天上宮闕，今夕是何年。
我欲乘風歸去，唯恐瓊樓玉宇，高處不勝寒。
起舞弄清影，何似在人間。

轉朱閣，低綺戶。照無眠。
不應有恨，何事長向別時圓？
人有悲歡離合，月有陰晴圓缺，此事古難全。
但願人長久，千里共嬋娟。

Shui Diao Ge Tou     Su Shi (1037-1101)

On the Mid-Autumn Festival of the year Bing Chen, I drank throughout the night. In my drunkenness I wrote this thinking of my younger brother Ziyou

I ask the Heavens with a cup of wine:

When did the full moon first shine?
What year is it tonight in the welkin by your time?
To the moon the wind I wish to ride,
If not for the height and chill there all beyond mankind;
So I begin dancing with the shadow of mine,
Would the pleasure of dancing there be the same as on earth that one finds?
Raring to try be I.

Now on the crimson chambers she shines,

Low into the gracious boudoirs and
Caresses the sleepless eyes;
She should have no spleen. But why?
When people are parting, she always puts on a full smile;
Man rues and rejoices, sunders and reunites,
She waxes and wanes,
We can’t have everything to our wish since olden times,
I just wish that we could live long and healthy,

With arrows made of vulture quills,

And banners shaped like swallow tails embellished with emblem of the arc of the blister beetle,

Standing alone on the command podium giving new orders to all his soldiers this commanding general,

Soldiers in the multiple camps rejoiced in exalted hail.

石礬西畔問漁船。
桃花盡日隨流水，
洞在清溪何處邊。

Behind the brumes a flying bridge lies in perdu,

I ask a fishing boat to the west of the rocky shoal,

With the water all day long flow the peach blows,

Wheresoever is actually the Peach Font on this rill?
