Espying on the Wu Gong Terrace Temple on an
Autumn Day              Liu Changqing (726-786)

Dilapidated is this ancient terrace temple,
Over here autumn kindles my nostalgic doles,
Travellers are rare in this temple amidst the wilds,
Beyond the waters the clouds shrouded mountain peaks look diaphanously brumal,
The setting sun flushes on the old army citadel,
Chilly stone chime tunes infuse the empty wealds,
Long gone are the South Dynasty deplorable sorrows,
Only the Great River still stands to evince them all.
