Thoughts on An Ancient Site (Poem No.2)
Du Fu (712-770)

Song Yu was deeply aggrieved over flowers and plants wilt and fall,
A literatus cutting a figure graciously gentle liberal and unconventional he is my revered guru eternal and spiritual,
While admiring him through these thousand years my compassionate tears fall,
Born in different ages we are glutted with different sorrows and dismals,
Dilapidated is his original home of abode but passing down from age to age is the ingenuity of his literary refinement to the eternal,
Beautiful words depicting the drifting clouds in the morning and gusty rains in the dusk are not just records of dream cameos,
What pains me most is the palaces of Chu stand no more as memorials,
Boaters today are still pointing to where they once stood with scruples.
