Mounting a high place      Du Fu (712 - 770 )

The sky is high, the wind rough, mournful ape wails sore,
The ait looks vivid, the white sand shimmers, over which birds hover,
Leaves of the boundless divesting forest bleakly bleakly fall,
Billows of the ever-spanning Great River ragingly ragingly roar,
Enduring thousands of miles of autumnal sorrows,
A constant wayfarer, ailing with a century’s disease, up this terrace I crawled,
Hardship and bitter sorrows have laid my hair and temples with heavy frost,
To make things even worse, I’ve now had to give up my sloughy cup of wine once and for all.
