Reflections on an autumn day               Cheng Hao (1032 - 1085)

When one sheds ambitions one will be at ease at all times feeling heart light,
One will be able to sleep tight and wake up to see over the east window bright sunlight,
With one’s mind put in peace and quiet one may gain enlightenment on contemplating everything on earth alike,
And one may appreciate with creatures all and sundry the seasonal delights,
My Dao rises above and beyond heaven and earth’s physical tights,
My thoughts merge into the winds and clouds where changes are the good rights,
If one can survive the corruption of power and wealth and be content with a life of poverty slight,
One is really a giant of a man forever shining bright.
