On Hearing the Flute Zhao Gu(806-853)
Who is playing the flute in this adorned chamber,
Amidst the fragmented gusts of wind it comes in fragmented
chapters,When it is loud and blare it lulls the clouds and thrills through the ether,
When it is crisp and mellow the chilly moon crashes through the portieres,
At the peak of its verve, Huan Yi, the flute expert of Jin is playing his three melodies in my vagary,
Ma Rong of Han seems to be writing his flute lauding verses here,
When the music is over, I brood over the whereabouts of the player,
While the enthralling music is still lingering in the air.
