登總持閣 岑參

登總持閣         岑參 (715-770)

高閣逼諸天,登臨近日邊,
晴開萬井樹,愁看五陵煙。
檻外低秦嶺,窗中小渭川,
早知清淨理,常願奉金仙。

Mounting the Tower of the General Monk of the Temple Management                 Cen Shen  (715-770)

Up to the heavens reaches this tall tall tower,
Here the sun seems within one’s fingers,
On a fine day one can behold with delight wells and trees of the myriad households down under,
But mists enshrouding the Five Imperial Tombs may cause one to have sorrows of nostalgia,
Up here the mountains in Shanxi all seem much lower,
Through the window here even the River Wei looks much smaller,
If I ’d earlier taken up the tenet of cleanliness and ridding all borders of the Buddha,
I’d have long been a Buddhism follower.
