渡揚子江     丁仙芝 (唐) 

桂楫中流望，空波兩岸明，

林開揚子驛，山出潤州城。 
海盡邊陰靜，江寒朔吹生， 
更聞楓葉下，淅瀝度秋聲。 

Crossing the Yangzi River         Ding Xianzhi (Tang poet)

At middle of the river I look around,

The two banks of the river stand vivid with billows between spread abound,
The Yangzi Post Station is built on the north with the forest surrounds,
Thrown into relief is the Runzhou City wall against the mountain southbound,
At this moment the waters are quiet and all quarters are safe and sound,
Chills on the river come scathing with north winds hither bound,
Come rattling with divesting maple leaves of the woods amidst unsettling autumnal downs.
