八月洞庭秋，瀟湘水北流，  

還家萬里夢，為客五更愁。  
不用開書帙，偏宜上酒樓，  
故人京洛滿，何日復同遊。

In the eighth month Lake Dongting is already under autumn’s command,

Both the Xiao and the Xiang Rivers are northbound,
Our homecoming dream has still ten thousand miles to go round,
Deep in the night in nostalgia we are all drowned,
To this, on books we cannot count,
Drinking in the wine house may help with friends around,
But how are our friends who are all in Luoyang and Chang’an to be found,
When will our travelling together have another round?
