送友人入蜀        李白(701-762)

見說蠶叢路，崎嶇不易行，  

山從人面起，雲傍馬頭生。
芳樹籠秦棧，春流遶蜀城，
升沈應已定，不必問君平。  

Seeing a friend off into Shu (Sichuan)        Li Bai (701-762)

Roads in Shu are all very steep and craggy, people say,

Travelling there is a hard and arduous case,
The mountains there rise precipitously right in your face,
From one’s riding horse clouds spread out like haze,
Entering Shu by Qin Trail, the main way, exuberant foliage shade throughout the way,
Around the Shu city wall spring waters circulate,
You need not consult Yan Zun the diviner most famous,
How well you'd fare is already written in your fate.
